Maxwell Hill Trip 26-29 July 2011
Our lastest outing was Maxwell Hill or Bukit Larut, Taiping Perak in Peninsular Malaysia. We (Edward, Jimmy, Jessie, Betty, Polly, Linda, Karen & Lionel) had the experience of travelling on different modes of transport like the jeep & the KTM train. The 30 min jeep ride was quite an experience with the many sharp turns along the uphill drive.
We were very impressed with the coolness, peace & the panoramic view of Taiping town from Cendana Hut. It was such a great feeling having our meals at the verandah engulfed by the mist, as though we were in Europe. You could see colourful & beautiful flowers everywhere and there was so much greenery too!
In Taiping town, we got to try its famous chendoh but it was not so lemak or rather diluted compared to Malacca or Penang. Supper was curry mee, laksa, chicken feet & yong tau foo. While exploring the town, we came upon the Visitor Information Centre & were briefed on the history of Taiping, the Larut Wars, etc.
The train ride was great fun too, we had nasi lemak for tea break & chicken rice for dinner. We laughed, joked, exchanged opinions & talked at the top of our voices as though we were the only ones on board.
On the whole, it was indeed a great trip & we look forward to our next destination!
