A big thank you to Edward for his suggestion, effort & arrangement for the group to join the nightwalk. We the 11 nightwalkers (Betty, Glow, Linda, Lyn, Mok Wah, Peggy, Polly, Vivian, Davy, Edward & Lionel) had a great time together & found that it was quite an enjoyable night walk. The weather was fine & rather breezy & the night scenes were beautiful especially with the sky scrapers all litted up. Maybank building was quite unique especially with the changing of colours of the lightings outlining the whole building.
We decided to meet up at 4.30 pm instead of 5.00 pm as suggested by Mok Wah to beat the anticipated crowd, at the former OUB centre Raffles Place to go for early dinner at Golden Shoe Food Court.
After dinner, we proceeded via the air conditioned underpass to the assembly area at The Promontory@Marina Bay behind the NTUC Centre for the opening ceremony at 5.30 pm. It was a yellow site at the bay with the 10,000 nightwalkers wearing the Li-Ning yellow t-shirts. It was a carnival, you see people queuing for light sticks, Old Chang Kee curry puffs, fish balls & chicken nuggets, ice cream, coffee, mineral water etc.
The walk was flagged off at 6.30 pm & we had a great time talking, joking, laughing & taking photo shots along the way.
The whole circuit was completed in about an hour & a half. Then it was quite chaotic when queuing for the goodie bags, there were too many queues which resulted in a bottle neck near the collection booths. You see the ugly side of the walkers, pushing & raising their voices etc. The organisers were rather apologetic for the situation. Anyway, it was brought under control & everything went smoothly.
At 8.30 pm, it was show-time & lucky draw, but sad to say that none of our coupons were picked for the lucky draws at all, the 1st prize was a SQ flight ticket for 4 to Sydney, the 2nd for 2 to Tokyo & the 3rd for 2 to Hongkong.
The whole carnival ended around 9.30 pm & we, except Vivian & Davy decided to walk to Lau Pat Sat for supper. We had rojak, so called Lakeview char kway teow, carrot cake etc.
We then decided to call it a day!
